And dress for the occasion this Grand National Weekend!

Here are some of my top tips for your day at the races…

A good two way bet is this beautiful Silk Linen jacket in stone colour. This jacket features a 2 button, single breasted style with side vents and slightly slanting pockets. Perfect with jeans or Chinos.

Always a winner is my classic Navy Serge blazer complete with a royal purple silk lining.

And Finally, the bookies favourite has to be this floral print shirt. In a soft blue shade and ideal to wear under a suit or more casually with jeans. In a tailored fit with a single cuff and a spread collar, this is a sure thing this weekend!

Crack the Dress Code!

Got an invite and can’t decipher the dress code? Here is your simple guide to what it really means:

White Tie
Knowing the difference between black tie and white tie is important. White tie for men means a tail coat, not a dinner jacket. Also, white tie definitely means a white bow tie, stiff white shirt and waistcoat. This is the most formal of formal occasions, so make sure you don’t let the side down!

Morning Dress
This is the daytime version of White Tie. Traditionally, men will wear a black or grey morning coat with tails in the rear which reach down to the back knee. Trousers are grey wool with a black stripe. A waistcoat is worn over a crisp white shirt and a grey cravat. Formal black shoes should be worn. Usually this is only required at very formal weddings or to attend the races.

Black Tie
Black tie is one of the most common dress codes. It is a little more flexible than White Tie or Morning dress. You can use a little artistic license here and show off your own style. Wear a tuxedo or dinner suit: whether you chose a notch lapel, peak or shawl is up to your personal preference. If you are so inclined, you can wear a colourful bow tie and waistcoat. Dress shoes should be worn and black socks to finish off the look.

Lounge Suits
This is an elaborate way of saying a suit for the evening. If you want to look sharp and not stand out too much its recommended you wear a dark suit, charcoal or navy with smart shoes. A tie is optional but it’s probably wise to have one in your pocket just in case. If you aren’t wearing a tie a silk pocket square can make a nice finishing touch to your outfit.

Smart Casual
For men, this tends to mean a shirt and shoes. The rest is up to you. A tie isn’t necessary here and a jacket will depend on your preference and the weather. Remember - there will always be someone at an occasion who is smarter and who is scruffier than you. It is easy to be too scruffy but you can rarely be too smart.
